Creating
and Using a Restore Point:

When you install a new
piece of software or hardware, if things don't go
quite to plan, you can tell the computer to go back
to how it was, just before you started. But only
if you've created a Restore Point!
This tutorial shows you how to create a Restore
Point in Windows XP. Although the process is similar
for all versions of Windows please consult your
Windows help for more details.

Creating
a Restore Point:
1 - To run the Restore Point application click:
Start | All programs | Accessories | System Tools
and then choose System Restore.

2 - Click the option -
'Create a Restore Point' and then click 'Next'.
3 - You will then be asked to give a name to your
Restore Point. Choose a descriptive name, for example:
'Just before installing The Monkey'.

4 - Next, click the 'Create'
button (not shown) to finish the procedure. When
Windows has completed creating the Restore Point
it will display confirmation to you. That's all
there is to it!

Restoring
your PC from a previously created Restore Point:
1 - Before you try to restore your PC, make sure
you have saved any work and that you close down
all running programs. To run the Restore Point application
click
Start | All programs | Accessories | System Tools
and then choose 'System Restore'. |

2 - Click the option -
'Restore my computer to an earlier time' and then
click 'Next'.
3 - You will then be presented with a calendar.
Dates highlighted in bold mean that a Restore Point
was created for that day. NB: Windows often creates
its own Restore Points so don't worry if you see
some that you didn't create yourself! Select the
Restore Point you want to go back to.

4 - You will then be told
that Restore Point will close down Windows and put
your computer back to the state that it was before
loading your software or hardware. Follow the on-screen
prompts. That's all there is to it!
