| Enduro Africa: |
In November 2007, myself and around eighty others,
raised money to take motorcycles through South Africa,
delivering them to health workers who could then
use them to provide healthcare in remote villages.
I'd like to use this space to tell you why we did
this and to give exposure to a fantastic cause.
(10% of every purchase made by you I give to this
charity.)

What
is it? - Enduro Africa is a unique and
challenging motorcycle adventure in aid of 3 amazing
causes - UNICEF, Sentebale – The Prince's
Fund for Lesotho and the Nelson Mandela Children's
Fund.
Motorcycle adventurers from all over the world tackle
days of dusty and demanding riding through some
of South Africa's most rugged and isolated terrain
– the famous Wild Coast. |

Why?
- On the vast continent of Africa, there's little
or no reliable transportation. The vehicles that
do exist are often unreliable in the extreme.
The issue hit hardest by this chronic and desperate
situation is the delivery of health care. Men, women
and children are dying of easily preventable diseases,
simply because they cannot be reached.
As an example, bubonic plague is still endemic in
Africa, even though all that is needed to cure it
is flea powder. It is still rife because there is
no means of transport to distribute this simple
cure. |
Why
motorbikes? - It's possible to buy 12 motorcycles
for the price of just one Land Rover. The cost for
maintenance is very small, they travel for miles
on a thimble full of petrol and they can easily
get where it's sometimes impossible for other vehicles
to access.
Motorcycles have proven so successful the charity
has grown from strength to strength since the mid
nineties. |
